Most travelers know Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), but private and corporate aviation often skips it entirely in favor of Atlanta's executive airports. These general-aviation fields are faster, quieter, and built around the FBO experience — and each serves a different part of the metro.
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK)
Located in Chamblee, just northeast of Buckhead, PDK is Atlanta's premier general-aviation airport and a popular choice for business travelers headed intown. Its proximity to Buckhead, Midtown, and Perimeter makes for short ground transfers.
Fulton County Airport — Brown Field (FTY)
West of downtown, FTY serves private and corporate aviation with quick access to the west side, the airport district, and downtown — convenient when your business is on that side of the metro.
Cobb County International — McCollum Field (RYY)
In the northwest metro near Kennesaw, RYY is well placed for the Marietta, Kennesaw, and northwest corridor, and for travelers headed toward the north-metro business parks.
Gwinnett County — Briscoe Field (LZU)
In Lawrenceville, LZU serves the northeast suburbs and the I-85 corporate corridor, convenient to Gwinnett, Duluth, and Suwanee.
How ground transfers work at an FBO
The beauty of private aviation is the curbside handoff. A good ground service coordinates directly with your FBO and monitors your tail number, so your vehicle is waiting on the ramp as you deplane. There's no terminal to cross and no line — you step from the cabin to the car. Timing is everything, which is why tail-number coordination, not a fixed clock, is the right way to schedule these transfers.
